John Wheeler, a local man with a strong interest in the history of Swanland, agreed to provide a monthly page on aspects of ‘old Swanland’, the village, the people, and the way of life, to the editor of the Swanland Parish Magazine, which is not being published at the moment. However, these Swanland Snippets have been reclaimed from those monthly magazines, to be reprinted all together in this book, which is published by the Swanland Heritage Centre. John took a subject in his early life and made an essay short enough to fit a booklet's page (A5) every month for 29 consecutive months, for the village's parish magazine. This was especially very popular with those of John's generation. It was almost a certainty that someone should suggest that these essays be made into a booklet. Appropriate photos taken from the Swanland Heritage Centre's website have been added to illustrate the places, people and dogs that John writes about. |
