The Swanland Heritage Centre was formed in March 2013 to establish a local reference point for the history of the village and a repository for a collection of photographs, documents, books, maps and transcripts relating to Swanland and its environs. These had been built up over a number of years as a result of the writing of three volumes of the history of the village by the Swanland History Group. In 2012 at an exhibition of the collected material held during the village Festival, it was suggested that a Heritage Centre be established to hold and display this material permanently. The Centre is housed in the old library room of The Institute which is located in the middle of the village by the pond.
The Centre is constituted as a not-for-profit voluntary association and is managed by a Committee elected annually. A large number of volunteers help to staff the centre and catalogue the records and photographs. Supporters have also established the Friends of Swanland Heritage Centre whose annual subscriptions help to fund the Centre. We welcome new volunteers or Friends (see the About us menu above) as there is still much to do.

This will be achieved using photo galleries on various topics and a database of objects that researchers can use to obtain information about the past. Please bear in mind that the site is being continuously updated and if you have specific queries or problems please contact us (see the About us menu).
